We Like The Trojan Horse
The Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH) standard exists as a Trojan Horse of a standard. While this new frame standard has caused some headaches among framebuilders, it does bring with it a few benefits that we think outweigh the negatives.
RD00 - Builder’s Special
Time spent building others’ dream bikes doesn’t leave much room for a new bike for the builder themselves, but every now and then an opportunity presents itself and the builder gets a new bike all for themselves. This bike is one such opportunity.
RD01 - E’s Road Bike
Our most recent customer (who has asked to go by “E”) approached us with a very clear request on what she wanted in her new bike: disc brakes, a comfortable ride, and a bike she wouldn’t need to replace for a long time.
Paint by ENelson
Inspired by the Arizona Desert and painted with care, the Albatross Abomination for ENelson gets a custom paintjob.
GR01 - ENelson Gravel Frameset
We come from a background of off-road racing so we knew that our take on a gravel bike wouldn’t be a simple tweaking of a road bike for more tire clearance a calling it good. We wanted to build a mountain-bikers gravel bike.
Dropped Stay Concept Analysis
For our development of the Dropped Stay Concept, we ran through many iterations of Finite Element Analysis to calculate critical stresses and to make sure that the deflections are all within the designed limits.
RHT-SS Frameset
Single speed MTBs are near the pinnacle of cycling minimalism so when we were asked to design a frame from the ground-up to be our take on the ultimate single speed, how could we resist?
Headtube Ring Prototype
We wanted to include an additional ring of material at the top and the bottom of the headtube to increase the strength at both ends and to create a smoother visual transition between the headtube OD and the headset cup. To do so, we first needed a prototype.
CXP-01 New Frame Closeup
After testing our last DIAero P-03 prototype gravel frame for a little over half a year, we decided that for the upcoming Cyclocross season we would be better served by developing our own take on a race-specific CX frame.
Long Term Review: Hope E4/X2 Brakes
These are some of most reliable, and consistent brakes that you can purchase today and will have few headaches down the road.
HTP-01 MTB Frame Ride Review
...this bike approaches turns with relish, simply itching to be carved hard around off-cambers and thrown head-long into steep trails where most XC bikes would have no purpose being.
DIAero P-03 Gravel Frame Ride Review
...with the dropped stays and long extended seatpost, the ride quality was very smooth and ideally suited to long excursions on the bike.
DIAero P-01 Gravel Frame Ride Review
We chose to build our first prototype with very aggressive geometry in order to test the extreme of what we think the geometry of a DIAero bike should be. . .
Product Testing
A bike is only ever the sum of it's parts and we make sure that every bike that we build is put together with the best parts possible. To ensure we make the right choices, we have to do a lot of testing.
The Albatross Process
Every Albatross frame that is built goes through a series of steps that we have developed to ensure that every customer is pleased with their finished frame. To better help you understand the care that goes into every frame, we've laid out our process below.
By Hand or By Machine
To miter tubes, there are the two methods that can be done in your average shop; mitering by hand or mitering by machine. Both have their benefits and drawbacks in accuracy or setup time or setup costs, but they can both get the job done. . .
A Lathe at the Center of Every Shop
In the small shop that I work in, the lathe is the center piece. Capable of trimming parts, creating tooling, and making all sorts of necessary parts for bicycles, it truly is one of the most versatile tools one can own.
